Credit Karma ratings and coverages

Credit Karma was founded in 2007 and is based in San Francisco, California.

Credit Karma is an online service that allows users to check their credit scores and other financial reports for free. In October 2018, Credit Karma expanded its services to also help its users find the lowest priced auto policy. Credit Karma provides its users with a free credit score report, and reports from TransUnion and Equifax, and then weekly updates following. It then analyzes your data to make recommendations for products or services based on your financial situation. If you end up buying a product or service based upon one of their recommendations, the bank or lender pays Credit Karma.

Credit Karma also provides its users with a tool that helps them easily find the cheapest auto insurance option for them. This tool works by looking at public information from state motor vehicle departments about the driver and vehicle, so the user doesn’t need to waste time filling out long forms. It will also allow the user to view how their changing credit score and moving violations will affect their insurance rates. The feature is only available in California and Texas as of October 2018, but Credit Karma plans to roll out the feature in other states soon.

What customers say about Credit Karma

Customer reviews for Credit Karma on websites like Consumer Affairs or Better Business Bureau (BBB) are mostly negative and with many consumers saying they feel like Credit Karma didn’t give them an accurate report on their Credit Score. Keep in mind these reviews are on Credit Karma’s credit score service, given its auto insurance services are brand new.

As of October 9, 2018, Credit Karma had 152 reviews on BBB and rating of less 2 out of 5 stars. Many negative complaints said that its customer service is not accessible, and some complaints from consumers said they were charged for the services they used. Those who complained that they weren’t given an accurate score said that while they would receive high scores on Credit Karma, when they went to a bank or lender they would be denied and told they actually had a very low score, or sometimes no credit at all.

What its employees say about Credit Karma

Credit Karma’s employees appear to be overall happy when working there. On the employee rating and review website Glassdoor.com, Credit Karma has an overall rating of 3.8 out of 5 based on 155 employee reviews as of October 9, 2018. Sixty-seven (67) percent of employees who responded said they would recommend working at Credit Karma to a friend, and 87 percent said they approved of CEO Kenneth Lin. It was given a Best Places to Work Award in 2016 by Glassdoor, and many employees talked about Credit Karma’s great work culture.
